Abhijeet Patil, a young civil engineer from Washimbe village, is proving that modern farming can be a pathway to substantial financial success. After graduating from DY Patil College in Pune, most of his peers sought conventional jobs. However, Abhijeet took a bold step in 2015 and decided to enter the world of agriculture. His decision to embrace farming has paid off handsomely, with his innovative approach earning him an impressive ₹35 lakh from his four-acre red banana farm.
In December 2020, Abhijeet began cultivating red bananas on his land, an unusual yet lucrative crop in the region. After a year of diligent work and dedication, he started harvesting in January 2022. By leveraging his strong marketing acumen, Abhijeet was able to sell his harvest to prominent retailers such as Reliance Malls and Tata Malls across major cities like Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi.
The red banana market is a profitable one, with prices ranging from ₹55 to ₹60 per kilogram. From his four-acre farm, Abhijeet produced an impressive 60 tonnes of bananas, generating a total income of ₹35 lakh after covering all expenses. Recognizing the immense potential of this crop, he has expanded his farm by an additional hectare, further solidifying his position in the agricultural sector.
